National Alliance for Hispanic Health
A passionate response came from this hispanic health advocacy group, which was pleased to see the recommendations around added sugars. “Already, one in seven calories consumed by youth are from added sugars in products like soda and sports drinks” noted Dr. Jane L. Delgado, President and CEO. “The impact has been particularly harmful in Hispanic and African American communities that are the subject of intense marketing by the sugar sweetened beverage industry.” The association went on to urge the FDA to list added sugars on food labels and Congress to pass the “SWEET Act” which will add a manufacturers tax for beverages with added sugars or sweeteners.
