One suggestion in the guidelines is for Americans to replace some of their meat-centric meals with fish-based main courses — at least two servings of fish a week. The guide also called out the importance of seafood for pregnant and breastfeeding women in order to get adequate amounts of nutrients such as Omegas. NFI’s statement noted the unique fact that unlike many foods which Americans are told to restrict, “seafood is among the handful of foods Americans are encouraged to eat more often” and encouraged consumers to think beyond fresh fish to “canned, dried and frozen” options.
