Naked Juice Bare Breeze

Cranberry is the holiday flavor popping up in seasonal varieties from drink makers like Gorgie, Halfday, Unwell and Cann.

Innovation around low-sugar, plant-based liquid is seeping into an OG better-for-you drink category, and no, we aren’t talking about “Modern Soda” or energy drinks. Today, senior reporter Lukas Southard has all eyes on the smoothies and juices sector.

In this interview recorded at Expo West 2019, BevNET spoke with Enrique Cortinas, senior marketing director for PepsiCo North America, about new products from Naked and KeVita, how PepsiCo is supporting the brands through internal reorganization and about Naked’s first-ever TV advertising campaign.

In the face of the growing anti-sugar movement, juice brands are responding by refining their offerings and attitudes towards the formulation, marketing and processing of their products in divergent and innovative ways.

Lansing’s departure was followed by other changes in PepsiCo’s warehouse team — covering items like Tropicana, Gatorade, and other key direct-shipped products — which had taken over the sales responsibilities for the Naked team in 2015.

CSPI faults PepsiCo with misrepresenting some Naked products, including the brand’s “Kale Blazer,” by claiming that they “predominantly consist of high-value ingredients,” but in actuality are mostly comprised of orange and apple juice.

The launch of Naked Pressed comes amid a crowded and mature category for cold-pressed juice, however, Andrea Theodore, Head of Marketing, Naked Emerging Brands, said that the company is “consistently listening to our consumers’ needs and innovating alongside them.”
