Witness List: Committee to Call Red Bull, Rockstar, Monster

The first set of witnesses to be called for questioning by the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation during tomorrow’s hearing on energy drink marketing includes representatives from the three biggest energy drink companies in the U.S., including Rodney Sacks, the chairman and CEO of Monster Beverage Corp.

Sacks will be joined by Janet Weiner, the CFO and COO of Rockstar Energy Drinks (and mother of founder and CEO Russ Weiner, who is also in Washington, D.C. for the hearing), as well as Amy Taylor, the VP and General Manager, East, of Red Bull North America.

The panel also plans to call experts from across the nutrition and public health fields, including Dr. Marcie Beth Schneider of the American Academy of Pediatrics, which has warned against adolescents consuming energy drinks, Dr. Jennifer Harris, a marketing expert with the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity at Yale University, and Dr. James R. Coughlin, a food scientist and consultant.

Suffolk County legislator Dr. William Spencer is also on the list.

The hearing will be available for viewing online via the committee’s website at 2:30 p.m. EST.
