San Luis Potosí, Mexico – November 2025 – Desolas Mezcal proudly announces the launch of its Single Barrel Añejo series. Building on the success of its award-winning Desolas Blanco, named Mezcal of the Year by the Tasting Alliance in 2024, Desolas introduces the second aged expression in its distinguished portfolio. Following the launch of Desolas Reposado, this release represents the brand's ongoing commitment to the Salmiana agave, continuing to elevate its unique profile and pay tribute to San Luis Potosi.
Desolas Mezcal continues to redefine the category, pushing boundaries through an extraordinary journey into barrel aging—where the worlds of whisky and mezcal meet to create something entirely unprecedented.
Desolas Single Barrel Añejo was aged for 31 months in two separate ex-bourbon barrels. One barrel was placed atop of the aging facility and one at the bottom of the aging facility to produce distinct microclimates during the aging process. Each barrel after aging was purposefully bottled individually at its full barrel strength (104 proof). Barrel #1 named "Golden Horizon" gave the mezcal a vibrant and youthful flavor profile even with its age, yielding 230 bottles. Barrel #2 named "Ember Sol" gave mezcal that has great barrel style aging with immense sweetness and spice, yielding 206 bottles.
"Single barrel releases are a rarity in the mezcal world," says Chief Strategy Officer, Sammy Halpern. "Our Single Barrel Añejo is bold, refined, and distinctive. Each barrel brings its own character, transforming our bright, botanical mezcal into something truly one of a kind. Drawing on my experience in the liquor industry and the world of whisky, GG and I collaborated on this beautiful experiment—one that surprised us both. It is Desolas, reinvented and reimagined."
This is the FIRST TIME EVER, a Salmiana agave from San Luis Potosi has been aged this long, bottled like this and offered to the public. Scheduled for release in December, each bottle will be hand-numbered and will indicate which barrel the bottle is from. This release is designed for collectors and connoisseurs alike, retailing for $199.99.
To reflect this evolution, Desolas collaborated once again with the renowned Mexican artist behind its original bottle design. Departing from the botanical green of the Blanco, the new black-and-white ceramic bottles embody the depth and sophistication that time in barrel imparts. Each piece is both a work of art and a tribute to timelessness.
These mezcals are meant to be savored neat, revealing their layered complexity sip by sip.
As the global appetite for mezcal continues to grow, Desolas stands at the forefront of innovation and artistry. The Single Barrel Añejo series reaffirms the brand's mission: to craft elegant, expressive mezcals that showcase the depth and diversity of the Salmiana agave. Inviting drinkers to explore the spirit of Mexico beyond the smoke.
